Michael Harrison not only transformed Kettle's Yard into an internationally renowned space for visual art, but also oversaw wonderful concerts in the gallery. Michael understood that new music was the perfect complement to modern art and, over the years, he invited a series of musicans to put together programmes of concerts for Kettle's Yard. The intimacy of the relationship between musicians, audience, paintings and sculptures was unique. I was fortunate to appear on a number of occasions, as composer and performer with the ensemble Apartment House; I always looked forward to the warmth of Michael's welcome and to his enthusiasm for the music we presented.
