My friend Marion Daltrop, also known as Marianne, who has died aged 87, experienced the horrors of Nazi Germany and went on to work for the welfare of children.
Born in Bielefeld, Germany, to Albert Daltrop, a lawyer, and his wife, Lotte (nee Raphael), a linguist, Marion was sent to the UK at the age of 12 with her brother, John, on the Kindertransport. Her parents, who remained in Germany, survived the war, but other relatives died in concentration camps.
