Pauline Drewitt obituary

My mother, Pauline Drewitt, who has died aged 91, was a lifelong carer, giver and above all a people person. She worked as a nurse in Liverpool, north Wales and Newcastle upon Tyne, and in 1983, the year she retired, was given the Professor Ingram award for a Newcastle nurse who has made a major contribution to the profession.

She was born in Liverpool, the second child of Eric Julian, a doctor, and his wife Pinx, a history teacher, who had recently migrated from Cork. It was a lively, intellectual household: in her parents' eyes, the quality of conversation was more important than the quality of food.
