Margo MacDonald was indeed characterised by "the warmth of her humanity" (obituary, 5 April), as I found when working with her on a couple of TV studio debate shows in the late 1980s, including Network for BBC1. She showed remarkable curiosity about all the contributors, regardless of their fame or lack of it, wanting to grasp the essence of what they might want to say, setting aside her own views on the matter. She was a joy to work with as a presenter, always the team player, constantly trying to enhance the quality of debate on behalf of the public.
