Carol Davis writes: A couple of years before he retired in 1976 as head of Alderley Edge county primary school, my father Arthur Savage was contacted by a former pupil, David Coleman. He had a proposition – to endow his old school with an athletics trophy. The offer gratefully accepted, I believe the man himself turned up to make its first presentation at the next sports day.

Sir Paul Fox writes: I regret having to correct the late Frank Keating's obituary of David Coleman. But on 6 May 1954, Roger Bannister, having broken the four-minute mile, was not hiding in Clement Freud's restaurant, but was on his way in a BBC car to the studios in Shepherd's Bush, where he was interviewed by Peter Dimmock. And yes, in the same programme Coleman interviewed Roberto de Vicenzo. I know: as editor of Sportsview, I was there.
